Ever since I found a post from &Farmer123 post living a short(er) life because of our lifestyle, I have been doing a little internet searching on the subject of longevity and the factors that influence it.
Genetics
The first factor, and over which we have not control is our genetics. According to the New England Centenarian Study (NECS) people that live 100 years and beyond, generally start suffering serious diseased into their nineties, not earlier.
The NECS (and other studies) state that exceptional longevity is influenced by multiple genetic variables that individually have modest effects, but as a group have a strong effect.
Lifestyle
The second factor is lifestyle, and there are 3 aspects recognized as key is living longer, the first Is nutrition, the second is exercise and the third is social ties.
According to a study published on the British Medical Journal, even after age 75, good lifestyle behaviors are associated with longer survival (&Farmer123 we are not doomed, it seems). They indicate that adopting favorable lifestyle behaviors, even at advanced ages, will help enhance life expectancy.
